Family Fashions for Summer

Happy summer solstice! My favorite season is finally here after a long, wet spring and many unexpectedly chilly days. Time to bust out the warmer weather gear, grab your families and celebrate Miss Sunshine with some stylish duds that are comfortable, affordable (speckled with splurges) and definitely prone to immediate dancing in the grass!

Many a mini model protested to taking these off after a recent segment for the Today show, which while never a pleasant experience for the parent, is always a good sign.

HAVANA TROPICALS

Rich leafy prints have never been more on trend, transporting us to lush rainforests, verdant islands, the hot tropics and beyond!

Middle sister Reese shows the minimalist way to do it with a knotted top and a Birds of Paradise printed pant along with cute clog sandals. All the girls are wearing pants to show you don’t have to “dress up” to hone in on this Havana style!

EMMA (second left)

Emma’s island-inspired, two-piece set highlights a kiddo trend—a crop top with culottes—and is accented with a chic, belt bag for carrying a girl’s must-haves along with gladiator sandals.

WALTER (father)

For men, look for vintage-style printed shirts that are super breathable and board shorts that pack a punch of color. This one from Old Navy with UPF 40 costs all of 10 bucks! So often guys buy just one swim short and call it a day, but these come in a ton of catchy colors and prints and for that price, now’s the time to stock up.

Fish Dash Slim Tucker Shirt, $89.50, vineyardvines.com

Red Board Shorts, $10, oldnavy.com

Sperry Original Boat shoes, $94.95, sperry.com

TOWELS

These revolutionary beach towels from Down Under are light, absorbent, quick-drying and most importantly sand-free! I hate it when you go to the beach, and drag home your own personal sand dune.

Sand-free Towels, $59, tesalate.com

HENRY (right)

Photographic prints are dominating swimwear fabrics, and artistically so from featuring animals to surf scenes to sharks, whales and more. These new water sandals make it easy to transition from human land boy to instant sea creature in a snap.

UPF 50 Rash Guard & swim trunks, from $12, oldnavy.com

New! Merrell Hydro 2.0 water sandals, $40
