Self-Care Savers!

If this unique time in our lives teaches us anything, it's to take better care of ourselves. Before we kick off the holiday season, I’m rounding up gadgets, wellness rituals and fresh ideas for the Today show Third Hour to incorporate easy self-care as a renewed part of our fall routine.

CALM BODY

Acupressure Everything, from 18, gokanjo.com

Kanjo

They claim relief for real life, and Kanjo’s extensive collection of acupressure products help you channel your body weight to target acupressure points to reduce pain throughout your body. All non-invasive, and easy to use at home or on the go.

So, my husband is Taiwanese and their belief in reflexology is intense: if you can tackle some of these pressure points, they claim, you are bound to feel tremendous relief all over your body! By the way, Kanjo is founded upon Traditional Chinese Acupressure methodologies in acupuncture.

I love the Foot Pain Relief Mat ($25) because you could place it in front of the kitchen sink or the clothes washer or your bathroom vanity and while you are doing chores or your makeup/face you can also massage your feet! They recommend you start with socks and eventually migrate to doing with bare feet. 15 minutes to start, and longer sessions as you become accustomed.

Acupressure Neck Pain Relief Cushion ($30) uses 14 foam knobs to target acupressure points to reduce pain. 10 minutes to start, followed by longer sessions as you become accustomed to the cushion.

Memory Foam Acupressure Mat Set  ($80) targets back, neck, shoulder pain relief as well as improved circulation. They claim it also helps with headaches. Best used by lying on the mat with bare skin, but a shirt can certainly be worn to reduce sensitivity. 15 minutes to start.

Acupressure Foot Relief Balls, 2 in a set, $18.

Please always consult with your healthcare professional before engaging in this activity.

CALM MIND

Manor House Weekend Collection Candles, $36 each, otherland.com

Otherland Candles

I’m admittedly big on scent. I burn incense, have a mister going with essential oils daily and light candles year-round -- all as a form of aromatherapy to suit my given mood.

These candles by Otherland are rather other worldly...so amazingly fragrant in a way that transports and makes me run to want to light them. Blissful...but again, I’m big on scent.

Their newest collection is autumnally-inspired and called the Manor House Weekend, and focuses on restoration and relaxation that’s perfect for fall and cozying-up as you light them.

There are six candles in the new collection (and the first three are my favorite!):

  • Dappled Wood (Sandalwood • Toasted Walnut • Sweet Hay)

  • Cardamom Milk (Frothy Milk • Cardamom • Praline Woods)

  • Mountain Lace (Elderflower Fizz • Anjou Pear • Apple Blossom)

  • Crisp Cornflower (Corn Silk • Golden Husk • Water Lily)

  • Tapestry (Burnt Maple • Smoky Oud • Vetiver)

  • Sun Suede (Salty Saffron • Pink Peppercorn • White Suede

The custom coconut and soy wax base contains no junk: no parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic dyes and is cruelty-free. Reuse the artsy glass tumblers to organize your things after you’re done burning, and perhaps be lightly scented as well!

Mindfulness Cards, $16.95, chroniclebooks.com

Chronicle Books

My girlfriend gifted me these and they are amazing. I do them with my kids before bed. Set of 50 cards organized by these categories: Rest & Balance, Insight & Awareness, Curiosity & Joy, and Kindness. The cards prompt thought and reflection and easy, to-do prompts that set our tone for sleep and a positive day ahead.

Feeling Feelings Card Deck, $19.95, bando.com

ban.do

Some days I feel so wound up that a simple, broken appliance makes me cry, and I don’t know why! Here’s a toolbox for your feelings. These cards are split into five sections: joy, fear, sadness, anger, and wild card. They're great for supporting your emotional awareness and growth, starting conversations, inspiring journal entries, and practicing empathy.

50% of the net proceeds will be donated to The Loveland Foundation. They’re an organization focused on bringing opportunity and healing to communities of color, especially to Black women and girls.
